About Derby Days
2008
20 North Gallery presents
the 8th Annual Derby Days exhibit, featuring
the best in equine art by thirteen local, regional
and national artists. Horse-themed artwork in
a variety of media--painting, drawing, pastel,
photography, prints and sculpture--will share the
spotlight with historic, international, archival
equestrian memorabilia from the collection of 20
North Gallery Art Director Peggy Brennan Grant.
The show begins on May 3rd, Derby Day, with a
televised broadcast of the Kentucky Derby to kick
off this annual celebration of art and racing in
Toledo, Ohio. Prior to the "run for the
roses", the gallery will host an informal trunk show
of the latest in millinery design with hats from
international designers, courtesy of The Preacher's
Wife Fine Millinery shop, Toledo, Ohio.
On May 17th, 4p.m., Peggy
Brennan Grant will share The Sport of Kings: the
History of Thoroughbred Racing, a talk about the
rich history of racing as she saw it through her
family's one hundred-year connection with the "sport
of kings." Peggy will speak of her grandfather's,
father's and brother's major roles in the racing
world, connecting the royal House of Windsor to the
horse owners of Toledo and Baltimore, through
thoroughbred, hunt and steeplechase races. The
talk and reception are free and open to the public.
Following the talk, the event will continue with the
televised running of the Preakness. To
celebrate the second crown of the famous triple
crown of horse racing, the gallery will hold a free
drawing for a framed color print
(pictured below) of the
great horse Seabiscuit by the great painter
of famous horses, Franklin B. Voss.
