Introduction to Fields of Color

20 North Gallery presents Fields of Color, featuring recent works by nationally recognized fiber artists Marcia Derse, Joan Rigal and Connie Stark.  "All three of these artists have transcended the pre-conceived boundaries of fiber as art, and are recognized as leaders in their field," says gallery owner Eric Hillenbrand.  "We are excited to have the opportunity to showcase these extraordinary women at our gallery."

Derse, Rigal and Stark, all members of Toledo's prestigious Athena Art Society, demonstrate what new directions this media is taking in the forefront of the art world.  Penny McMorris, author of The Art Quilt, states, "these three exceptional artists all push fiber in a new direction: working with color and cloth to create art that suggests a new way to think about the idea of 'quilt'." 

Also shown is the vibrant fine art polymer jewelry by fellow Athena member Kimberly Arden, whose contemporary media belies the meticulous traditional cane-working techniques used for centuries by Venetian glass artists.
