Connie is a fiber artist
who has creating art quilts and fabric collage for
over twenty years. Her art always begins with hand
dyeing and printing on cotton and silk fabric. The
resulting colored cloth then becomes her palette.
Although the quilt is her primary medium, she also
creates wearable garments such as jackets and
scarves.
Connie works in series
and the initial geometric abstract image is worked
and altered as the series progresses. The fabric is
cut and assembled without too much preplanning.
This spontaneous design approach allows her to
respond to her current moods and ideas. Most
recently, she has moved from the technique of sewing
with precision, to a more relaxed collage approach
as well as weaving strips of fabric to form more
complex color and shape relationships.
Once the fabric piece
is constructed, additional design elements are added
with embroidery and quilting. These lines of
colored thread create another layer of imagery that
is often subtle but very textural.
Connie’s work is
shown in numerous exhibitions throughout the region,
as well as national exhibitions such as the
American Quilter’s Society in Paducah, Kentucky,
the Quilt San Diego Show, in San Diego,
California and the Ohio Craft Museum in Columbus,
Ohio. Her studio is in her Sylvania, Ohio home.
She is a member of the prestigious Athena Art
Society, of Toledo, Ohio, the National League of
American Penwomen, the Fiber Forum of N.W. Ohio and
she is currently is an art docent at the Toledo
Museum of Art.
